The Dows Advocate (IA)
Bertha was born 10/5/1864 in Zarpen, Germany. She came with her parents to the 
United States in 1867 aboard the sailing ship Palmerston, Settling in WI. 
Later, they moved to Franklin County, IA until 1916, when they moved back to 
WI. On 2/23/1888, she married G. H. Butenhoff. They had 11 children. Survivors 
include her husband, eight children, Adolph of Dows, Mrs. E. A. Thomas of 
Dexter, MN; Arthur, Leo, Gustave, Hilda, Lulu and Walter, all of Earl WI, her 
aged mother, five brothers and three sisters all living in this vicinity. She 
was buried 2/27/1917 in Morgan Cemetery, east of Dows.
