Karsjen Garwin--Services were held Saturday, October 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Garwin United Methodist Church with Rev. Darrell Mitchell of Marshalltown officiating for Alvin T. Karsjen, 54 , who died Thursday, Oct. 13,. at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City after a long illness. Military honors were conducted by the Williams M. Saunders Post of the American Legion and burial was in Garwin cemetery. He was born Aug. 12, 1923 at Bradford, a son of Jake and Tena Meyers Karsjen. He was married to Gertrude Albrecht at Lancaster, Mo., and they moved to Garwin in 1973. He is survived by his widow; his parents;, now of Iowa Falls; three sons, Bob of Virginia Beach, Va, Al of Rhodes and Wildred, at home; a daughter , Ingrid, at home; three brothers,Martin of Klemme, Reint of Williams and LavErn of Rhodes; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Schweertmann of Webster City, Mrs. Esther Thornton of Longmont, Col., Mrs. Tena Kruger of Clarion, and Mrs. Delores Conrad of Colo; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were LaVern Karsjen Jr., David Karsjen, Dennis Karsjen, Richard Shaw, Jim Harsha and Paul Conrad. Mrs. Douglas Winders was organist. He was preceded in death by a sister.
