Mrs. C. G. Fisher Is Buried Here

Martha Roberts Fisher died at her home in Arkansas City, Kansas on Friday and
her request was that she be brought back to the old home town, Hamburg, for
burial. For many years, Martha and Cyrus Fisher were in the hotel business in
Hamburg. They owned the Julien Hotel for many years. Mrs. Fisher was the mother
of many of the young folks of the town. She was lovingly known as "Ma" Fisher,
and she always took a personal interest in her "boys and girls" a memory which
is left to many of us who have lived in Hamburg the last thirty or forty years.

Martha Jane Roberts, was born at Floris, Iowa, August 30, 1859, and passed away
at her home in Arkansas City, Kansas, on November 18, 1938 at the age of 79
years, two months, and 18 days. When she was five years of age, she united with
the Methodist Episcipal Church, south of Lineville, Iowa. Later she transfered
her membership to Hamburg and to Arkansas City. Martha married Cyrus Fisher at
Lineville, Iowa, on November 14, 1878. To this union four children were born:
Jesse C and Verna of Arkansas City, Kansas; Mrs. L. H. Garder of Elwood,
Indiana; and Grace who died in infancy. They moved to Hamburg about 1883. Mr.
Fisher died in 1915, and in 1919 they moved to Arkansas City, where they have
since made their home.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon, conducted
by Rev. F. G. Barns, and the interrment was at the Hamburg Cemetery.
