Olive church in Madison township last Tuesday afternoon. A large concourse of relatives and neighbors followed her remains to its last resting place. Rev. Wallburn conducted the services. Mrs. Chandler was taken to Mt. Olive for burial. There should be a vault in our cemetery where the casket could be placed, that the friends need not take such long drives in such fearful weather as Tuesday. Tuesday, Jan 15th, the thermometer registered 63 degrees above zero; January 16th, it has taken quite a fall and stands 70 degrees below zero, wind from the north, snow blowing, and looks like a Kansas Blizzard. It is a day to be thankful for warm homes and good fires. Mrs. Maria Chandler, whose death occurred Sunday at 6:30 p.m. was born in Ohio and lived there during her girlhood and most of her early married life. In 1881 she came to Riverton as the wife of J. W. Chandler and during the years she has lived amongst our midst she has won a host of friends by her kindly acts and deeds of charity. She has been a member of the M.E. church for a number of years and though poor health has prevented her from any active work in the church for a few years, she always had the good of the church at heart, and with her husband, gave liberally for its support. She leaves six children to mourn the loss mother - two were in attendance at her death-bed: Mrs. Shull of Missouri and Mrs. Mott of Colorado. One son, Mr. Allen Chandler, of southern Missouri, did not arrive until Monday morning. The other sons lived too far away to be here. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church Tuesday morning, conducted by Reverend Walburn. The day was so very stormy that many could not attend, yet there were many there to show their respect for the departed and sympathy for the bereaved. Our warmest sympathies go out to the lonely husband, whose home is now broken up. Mrs. Chandler was 74 years old last September.
