Mr. Gardner had neuralgia of the stomach and has always had his medicine handy to get when taken with one of these attacks. He had placed his medicine by the side of the carbolic acid the night before, not thinking he would get the wrong medicine. So Sunday morning he felt the pains in his stomach, went to the shelf thinking to pick up the other bottle and took two large swallows of the carbolic acid. He realized what he had done and told his wife. She told him to get the vinegar jug and drink the vinegar. He did that and by this time his wife had the camphor bottle and he tooks a couple of drinks of that. Immediately after taking these remedies he laid down on the bed and apparently was sleeping soundly, but in twenty minutes when his wife went to him she found him dead. The funeral was held at the Mt. Olive church and he was buried in Mt. Olive cemetery. Rev. Jake Mortimore conducted the funeral services. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
