February 6, 1930. "The Guthrian," Guthrie Center, Iowa Feb 6, 1930, page 1. MRS D.C. MATHIS Rose Estella Mathis, daughter of Lew and Mary Winebrenner, was born December 12, 1881, in West Virginia, and died Wednesday, Jan. 29th, 1930 at the age of 48 years, one month and 17 days. With her parents she came to Guthrie county when about five years of age. On January 19, 1902, she was united in marriage to Dave Mathis and to this union were born five children, David and Virgil, of Guthrie Center, Mrs Hazel Heckmann of Guthrie Center and Max, of Guthrie Center. Besides the grieved husband and children, she leaves to mourn her going, one grandchild, her aged father and stepmother, three sisters, Mrs Alma Bailey of Oklahoma; Mrs Effa Christian of Des Moines; Mrs Susie Warner of Atlantic, one brother, Samuel Winebrenner and one half-brother, Olin Winebrenner, also numerous other relatives and friends. With the exception of a short period spent in Nebraska and Kansas she made her home in this community since coming here as a small girl. She has always been a kind and thoughtful neighbor, with hand ever ready to serve. Her home and family were her joys. Though she has left them in early life, she had already bestowed upon them a rich inheritance of a mother's care and teachings. Her memory is blessed. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. A. Underwood pastor of the Christian church on Saturday afternoon, February 1, and interment was made in Union cemetery.
