The 86 year old lifetime resident of Guthrie county, is survived by a son Harold, Guthrie Center; two daughters Mrs. Lula Hall and Mrs. Hershel Bancroft, Dexter; 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren an 4 great, great grandchildren. The Rev. Lester Pearson will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Union cemetery. ****************************************************** THE GUTHRIAN, Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; November 18, 1958 MRS CLAUD [FLORA] TALLMAN SERVICES HELD HERE MONDAY AFTERNOON Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon at the Christian church for Mrs. Claud Tallman who died Friday at the Guthrie County hospital. Mrs. Tallman had been suffering from a heart ailment for several years. Rev. Cecil Simonton had charge of the services with interment in the Union Cemetery. Mrs. Tallman is survived by her husband, one son, Harold of Guthrie Center and two daughters. ****************************************************** THE GUTHRIAN, Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; July 12, 1971, page 4 JUDE CLEN TALLMAN Jude Clen TALLMAN, son of Jude Bradford and Mary Elizabeth TALLMAN, was born in Guthrie County, Iowa, on August 3, 1886. He passed away at the Guthrie County Hospital on June 29, 1971. Mr. TALLMAN was educated in Seeley No. 6 School and the Guthrie County High School. He also attended Drake University for 1 year and Iowa State University for 3 years and was graduated from that institution. After his graduation he taught school for a number of years, and in 1917 engaged in farming. He farmed continuously until his death. Mr. TALLMAN was a member of the Monteith Christian Church and he was also very active in the Guthrie County Farm Bureau. On December 23, 1915. Laura JOHNSON and Jude TALLMAN were united in marriage at the Christian Church in Ames. To this union nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, three sisters and four brothers. To mourn his passing are his wife Laura, his son Robert, both of Guthrie Center, his daughter Wilma TALLMAN of Highland Park, Ill., a son Justin "Jack" TALLMAN of Gresham. Ore., a daughter, Clara Marie Garwood of Vinton, Iowa, Laura Mae Ostby of Omaha, Nebr., a son, Peter TALLMAN of Atlantic, Iowa, a daughter Elsie Hertz of North Boston, New York, Also one brother, Walter TALLMAN of Stuart, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Allen of Guthrie Center. Also left to mourn his passing are 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Guthrie Center, Ia., Guthrian Methodist Church. Guthrie Center, with the Rev. Jerry D. Palmer, officiating on July 2, 1971. ****************************************************** THE GUTHRIAN, Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; April 19, 1960 Obituary of Jennie SLAYBAUGH Jennie Angeline SLAYBAUGH, the daughter of Mary and Jude TALLMAN, was born April 8, 1890 in Seeley Township and passed away April 11, 1960 at the Guthrie County Hospital at the age of 70 years and 3 days. She became a member of the Seeley Christian Church at the age of 14 and later transferred to the Guthrie Center Christian Church where she served faithfully. She lived all her life in Guthrie County with the exception of two years on a homestead near Chance, South Dakota. She taught school one year in Bear Grove township and the two years she lived in South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Earl SLAYBAUGH on October 9, 1912, and to this union were born five children; Ivyl of Earlham, Ollie of Stuart, Vern of Yale, Nyla PRUEITT of Des Moines, and Walter of Guthrie Center. She leaves to mourn her passing besides her husband and five children; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Claude and Clen TALLMAN of Guthrie Center, Water [sic] of Stuart and Roy of Perry; 2 sisters, Gail ADDISON, a medical missionary of India, and Carrie ALLEN of Guthrie Center, and host of other relatives and friends. *************************************************************** THE GUTHRIAN, Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; August 21, 1951 Funeral services were held Friday, August 10 at 2 p. m. from the Bayard Methodist Church for Mrs. Grace ELWOOD, who passed away at her home in Bayard August 7 after an illness of several months. Rev. Harvey G. Quandt was in charge of the service. Hymns were sung my Miss Marilyn Myers and Mrs. Swain MYERS accompanied by Mrs. B. H. SCOTT. Interment was in Union cemetery. Grace Lorranine RUSSELL, daughter of Lucya and Wm F. RUSSELL, was born near Blue Earth, Minn., Feb 2, 1872. She came to Guthrie County, Union Township when six years old in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. She grew to young womanhood in Union township and attended the old Guthrie County High School in Panora, Iowa. She taught in the rural schools several years before her marriage. In her youth she joined the Lone Star Presbyterian church, later transferring her membership to the Methodist church in Bayard. She was united in marriage to Samuel D. ELWOOD on Sept 10, 1894 at Nelson, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, all whom survive their mother and mourn her going. They are Mrs. Violet Nickel of near Wichita; Estel of San Diego, Calif.; Marien with whom she made her home; George of San Fernando, Calif.; Lucy Bonneson of Des Moines; Thomas of Chicago; and Lorrin of Denver, Colorado. ****************************************************** THE GUTHRIAN, Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; Tuesday, March 27, 1951 HOLD POSTPONED RITES FOR GROVE He Had Spent Most of Life on Farm North Of This City Rites were Monday afternoon, March 19 at the Christian Church here for Walter John GROVE, 60, who spent all but 12 years of life on his farm two miles north of Guthrie Center. Grove succumbed March 15 at his farm after several months illness. He became ill last June and grew steadily worse. He spent a month the Mercy hospital in Des Moines, Ia. In October his condition was "very grave." Grove, who was bed-fast most of the winter, seemed to be improving in recent weeks and suddenly took a turn for the worse. Rev. B.R. Hollis and Rev. L.C. McDonald conducted the services that had to be postponed from Sunday because of inclement weather. Fred Nelson was the singer and he sang three selections. his accompanist was Mrs. Carl FERRY. Interment was in Union cemetery. Son of Pheobe Ann and John M GROVE, he was born on the farm two miles north of here July 8, 1890. In young manhood he was united in marriage with Mildred Fern LEISURE, November 23, 1910. They moved to Orchard, Nebr., where they made their home for 12 years. To this union were born six children, Mildred, the eldest daughter died in infancy; John and Evelyn POHL, both of Guthrie Center; Esther BOHLANDER of Adel; and Marguerite JENESS and Arthur, both of Tacoma, Wash. After the death of his wife on April 1. 1923 he moved back to Iowa with his family. On December 10, 1924 he united in marriage with Hazel Marie BARNHOUSE. To this union were 13 children, Mary Joan (died March 29, 1933 at the age of one year); Marie JARRELL of Tacoma; Delbert of Guthrie Center; Gladys RASMUSSEN of Paramount, Calif.; Bethene PHILLIPS of Panora; Daurence, Beverlyl, Gerry, Jerry, Dale, Beulah, Patricia and Janice of the home.
