Death of Mrs. Whitfield

  Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock, Mrs. John Whitfield, after many months of 
failing health incident to old age, went to her eternal rest.

   The deceased was born in County Tycome, Ireland, February 9, 1820.  Her 
maiden name was Margaret McCann.  she was united in marriage to John Whitfield 
in the old country in 1837.  The family came to this country in 1850.  They 
came to Stuart from Pittsbug, Pennsylvania in 1874 and have resided here 
continuously ever since.  Her husband died here in 1887, and now his aged 
partner joins him in the city of the dead.  There were ten children born to 
them, five of whom are living.  She leaves one sister,  Mrs. Ellen Masterson, 
who resides here.  Her daughters, Mrs. Ellen McBride, of Chicago, has been with 
her in her last days minister to her wants.

   Mrs. Whitfield has faithfully filled her allotted sphere in life as mother, 
wife and neighbor, and goes to her grave with the respect of all who knew her.  
She will be buried today form the Catholic church.
