She passed away at her home in Little Sioux on July 10, 1961 after a lingering illness. She was the oldest child of Nels and Maren Nelson. At the age of eight the family moved to Pipestone, Minn. Where Martha went to school and grew to womanhood. In 1901 her parents moved to Bentley, Albert, Canada and here she met and married Thomas A. Carritt. To this union eight children were born. They are Mrs. Blanche Howard of Mondamin, Mariam Hadden of Castana, Wilma Lawrence, Ruth Benish and Harold of Omaha, Joe of Ute, Thomas R. and Kenneth of Little Sioux. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Tom, and children, 35 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Also three sisters and six brothers in Canada and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral service were held July 13 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Little Sioux. The songs “Twenty Third Psalm” and “Shepard Show Me How to Go” were sung by Ruth Benish, accompanied on the organ by Delores Howard. The pall bearers were all grandsons, Everett Howard, Robert Carritt, Richard Carritt, Don Hadden, Robert Choate, and Frank Benish. Interment was in the Jordan cemetery at Soldier. Funeral arrangements were made by the Pearson Funeral Home.
