	 Lawrence William Major, 80, passed away January 16, 1997,  at his 
home in Dunlap.
	
	Lawrence William Major was born August 6, 1916, to John Henry and Ida 
Alice (Hicks) Major, on a farm in Shelby County, Iowa.  
	Lawrence married his high school sweetheart, Carlyss Coe, on February 
14, 1937.  

	He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn and Edith.
	Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Carlyss, of Dunlap; 
three children, Charlotte and husband Robert Schmidt of Jefferson, IA, Larry 
and wife Caryl of Phoenix, AZ, and Janet and husband Michael Kahler of 
Blairsden, CA; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister, 
Vera Evans, Dunlap.
