Curtis E. Lee Obituary, Salem, Henry County, Iowa obituary from Salem newspaper 1934 Curtis E. Lee It was with much sadness among friends and relatives of theis community when the work of the death of C.E. Lee, was given out. Although Mr. Lee had been seriously ill for a long time and all knew that the end was near, still the loss of another one of Salem's most honorable citizens will be keenly felt. Always upright and honest in his dealings with all of his fellowmen, possessed with a quiet and unassuming manner that was the admiration of all. Short funeral services were held at the home, preceding the services held at the Round Prairie Baptist church at Glasgow at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The services were conducted by Rev. J.E. Cochran, pastor of the Glasgow church and assisted by Rev. Guy Hunting. Rev. Cochran used for his text, Psalm 90-17 and the song "Nearer My God to Thee", was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Smith at the home and with Mrs. Marie Barton accompanying on the piano, they sang three songs, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "Going Down the Valley," and "The Nearer, the Sweeter." Curtis E. Lee, son of Jonathan and Mary Lee was born in Henry county, Iowa September 16 1861 and departed this life, November 28, 1934 at the age of 73 years, 2 mon. and 16 days. He has lived his entire life in Henry and Jefferson counties. He has resided 15 years in Salem. He was married in 1882 to Miss Anna Cline. To this union was born three children, Myrtle Heckenberg of Lockridge, Clara Spray of Fairfield, Ia., and Roy L. Lee of Yates City, Ill., all of whom are present. When about 18 years of age, he saw the need of a Savior and gave his heart to God, uniting with the Round Prairie Baptist church, of which he was a faithful member until called up higher. He was a true friend to all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, three children, 11 grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Amanda Wood of Woolums, Ark., two half brothers, O.B. Lee of Ottumwa and R.J. Lee of Los Angeles, Calif., besides many other relatives and a host of friends. Burial was in the Lamberth cemetery with the following friends the pallbearers: John Foss, John McMasters, Forest McVey, V.L.
