Amy Spurrier Obituary, Salem, Henry County, Iowa ------------------------------------------------ Salem newspaper-----1893 Amy Spurrier One of Henry County's oldest citizens, passed away last Friday morning. She was born in Virginia, Sept. 12, 1802, making her age at the time of her death, 90 years, 10 months and 16 days. While quite young her parents removed to Ohio where she grew to womanhood and where she married Richard Spurrier in 1831. In 1842 they came to Iowa, settling in Johnson Co. Two years later they moved to Jackson township, Henry County and in 1845 they came to Salem, where Mr. Spurrier engaged in the mercantile business. Richard Spurrier died Sept. 30th, 1887. Mrs. Spurrier's funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Salem, on Sunday, attended by a large number of her friends. She has three living sons, Thomas, at Wichita, Kan., Ralph and Wm., living in Decatur Co., Ia. The two latter were present when she died.
