E. Peterkin, at Cedar Rapids, IA. Mrs. Hoy was one of the most widely known old settlers in this part of the country, and an authentic complete record of her life would be very interesting to her many acquaintances, but we are able to give it only in outline at this time. The Hoys came here about 1865, homesteading a farm 1 1/2 miles this side of Hardy. There are quite a large family of children, but they are scattered and the whereabouts of all are not known. They are are Frank, Mrs. Ann McDonald at Algona, Andy at St. Mary's, Kansas, Mrs. Kate Turner at Britt, Thomas, Mrs. Agnes Peterkin at Cedar Rapids and Patrick at Livermore. After about 10 years' residence on the old homestead, Mr. Hoy disappeared, possibly returning to Ireland, and it has never been definitely known whether he is alive or dead. Mrs. Hoy then continued to run the place with the help of her sons till about 20 years ago when she removed to Livermore with her son, Patrick. Here she remained until a few years ago, since which time she has been living with her children at various places, and finally with Mrs. Peterkin at Cedar Rapids where she died at the age of 92 years. Word was received that the funeral and burial would occur at Livermore last Wednesday, and the Catholic Church was in readiness and the grave dug, but nothing further was heard until Thursday when a message said that it was decided to bury her at St. Mary's, Kansas. =========================================================================================
