Garringer, 81, Grinnell, formerly of Brooklyn, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday Sept. 4, at St. James Lutheran Church, Victor. He died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at St. Francis Manor, Grinnell. The Rev. Alan Hafner will oficiate at the service. Burial will be at the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Casket bearers will be Eric Garringer, John Garringer, Dan Garringer, Rodney Garringer, Keith Garringer and Russell Hawkins. Honorary casket bearers will be Steven Van Blaricom, Ken Bendorf and Ray Garringer. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is in charge of arrangements. Orville Lynn Garringer was born April 8, 1922, in North English, the son of Carl Landrew and Ada Irene (Welch) Garringer. He was baptiized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, March 6, 1951. He attended Yankee Point School near North English. He married Mary Ann Fritz June 24, 1944, at the Yankee Point Community Church, rural North English. They were the parents of three sons, Jerry, Tim and Frank. The couple farmed for several years following their marriage. They lived in North English, Williamsburg and Ladora, where they operated a feed store, before moving to Brooklyn in 1968. They operated a feed store there for several years, and he later became manager of Rohrer Brothers Fertilizer, Brooklyn, until retiring. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Victor. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and singing the "Wabash Cannonball." Garringer is survived by two sons and their wives, Jerry and Carol Garringer, Eugene, Ore., and Tim and Karen Garringer, Brooklyn; one sister, Betty Van Dee, Vining; four brothers, Jim and Bill Garringer, Williamsburg; Vernon Garringer, Parnell, and Howard Brown, Cedar Rapids, and four grandchildren, Michael, Portland, Ore., and Eric, Amy and Matthew, all Brooklyn.
