Ely of Maquoketa, a graduate of the Law Department of the State University, the private secretary of Congressman I. S. Pepper, is the Democratic candidate for County Attorney. His two years in Washington have been very valuable as he improved his time to the best advantage possible by attending night law school and going through a course at the famous Georgetown University, Washington, D. C. Mr. Pepper says Clarence Ely is a studious, honorable and capable young man, who has thoroughly equipped himself for the practice of law and will make a good county attorney. He was born and reared in Maquoketa and graduated from our high school before going to the university. He is conducting a clean, manly campaign and has ability as a speaker. He has addressed a number of meetings and handles public issues without narrow prejudice and those who have heard him speak are satisfied he has the qualifications to perform the duties of the office to which he aspires. He has practiced law in Maquoketa since 1908, except the time he spent at Washington. Your vote for Clarence Ely will be a move in the right direction.
