Detectives are here searching for him, but thus far have not been successful. Several months ago Fox went to Maquoketa and represented himself to be a man of means, owning large estates in the West. He was a huge swell and soon had a number of susceptible women at his feet. Among them was a wealthy widow to whom he became attached, and in due time the pair were united in marriage. The honeymoon was happy, but brief, and one night while under the influence of liquor Fox made some remarks that aroused the suspicions of his wife. A few days later a letter arrived from the West asking if Fox was in Maquoketa. Other inquiries arrived and it was discovered that Fox was the husband of three wives, from none of whom he had been divorced and that numerous bills had been left unpaid by him in various parts of the country. It was arranged to arrest him last Sunday, but Fox got wind of the officer's purpose and fled. He was seen here Monday, but since then has evaded his pursuers.
