Iron Hills; was born in Washington Co., Ohio, where he lived until 1837, when he came West; lived in Muscatine, Iowa, until 1840, then came to Jackson Co., remained a few months, returned to Muscatine, and from there returned to his native county, and there married, on the 4th of July, 1844, Miss Margaret Snodgrass; in 1849, they emigrated to Iowa, and settled in this (Brandon) township, where they have since lived; they have three children - George (who married Sarah Heath; live in Brandon Township), Oliver P. (married Martha Berkey, live in Brandon Township), William L. (married Esther Matheny, live in Butler Co., Kan). Mr. Metheny has filled several school offices, is an energetic man, and owns 175 acres of land, well improved. In politics, he is a Democrat. - 1879 History of Jackson county Iowa, pg. 760.
