deceased- 

Received of L. F. Millikan Guardian of Robert Millikan one thousand dollars in 
full of legacy contained in the will of William C. Boardman, deceased this 
February 5, A. D. 1886. 
(Original on file in the Office of the Clerk of District Court of Jackson 
County, Iowa) 

Note: The will of William C. Boardman left $1000 for the education of Robert 
A. Millikan. Millikan was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1923. 




Additional Comments:
This is a Receipt for a bequest in the Will of William C. Boardman, who died 
April 28, 1884. Boardman left $1000 for the education of his minister's son, 
Robert A. Millikan. Millikan went on to be a world famous physicist and was 
awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1923.
