"Stop" he shouted, "Inspect your pack! Such weight my bridge will never hold!" Here I'll help you sort it over, For I know too what lies ahead. As he stacked my keepsakes nearby, Some he would keep, others he'd spurn Fears and doubts and disappointments Regrets and all life's might-have-beens, Saddness, sorrow, tears and heartaches, All were cast into the discard, And though some were really very new He stocked them with the bad luck, too. Friendships, loves and deep affections All were safely tucked inside Memory's album, twixt its covers Joy, cheer, and consolation hide. Smile, and laughter, precious moments, All were neatly filed away With scenes of beauty and contentment, Stored sunshine for a rainy day. I caution you to travel lightly, Once again the gateman said You will reach this destination To find more bridges up ahead Good-by, may God take you safely Across the Bridge of Yesterday, Past the Islands and Tomorrows. You'll never come again this way. Editor-Diane Davids Co-Editor-Earlene Rittmer Business Editors-Ray Malone-Kim Ruchotzke Photography Editors-Dave Meyers-Jim Vicks Typists-Barbara McDermott-Pam Behan-Donna Hanson Advisor-Helen Paulson Mrs. Elizabeth Henricksen & Mrs. Gladys Kyhl Builder of Bridges A bridge is a structure that permits people to Cross an area a more easily, more quickly, or just to cross it, period. A bridge is a structure supported by two strong towers from which the span is suspended. Using this analogy, the first supporting tower may be called potential abilities. On the other side of the area to be crossed, lack of understanding, another tower may be called person values. From these two supports, the span of the bridge to understanding ourselves, and our relationships to other, can be suspended. The most successful material from which to build the span of the bridge itself is education, including experiences and learning gained out of school as well as in school. Everyone is aware of the importance of the development of potential abilities. Everyone also knows, what an important part education plays in one's life. The most difficult part of the bridge construction is the tower of personal values. As the values of the past are challenged, a student is faced with having to think through things for himself. All students have been influenced by their parents, neighbors, teachers, and friends. Some authorities say that live is the most basic value of society-the giving of one-self, kindness, generosity, empathy, tolerance, and understanding-These values are probably the greatest heritage. It is these that have been constructed for us through the years by the two teachers whom we honor in the pages of this yearbook. They have taught us that learning is combined with living from the past to the present and for the future. We dedicate this yearbook, with our admiration, to Mrs. Elizabeth Henricksen, junior high teacher, and to Mrs. Gladys Kyhl, fourth grade teacher.
