His death was the result of dropsy, following an illness of about one year, which confined him to his bed for the past six weeks. Deceased was born in Germany, November 25, 1842, and came to America with his parents when about six years of age. He served during the Civil War in Company L, 5th Iowa Cavalry, and after being mustered out at the close of the war, returned to Jackson county. He was united in marriage to Miss Margarita Felderman, November 25, 1869, at St. Donatus. His wife and the following children are left to mourn him: Henry and George of Tete des Morts township, Conrad at Camp Dodge, Mrs. August Lampe, of Dubuque, Mrs. Clarence Cook and Mrs. William Mangler, Bellevue township, Mary and Tena at home, and one sister, Mrs. Millman of Bellevue. He was a consistent member of the Lutheran church and a man of high standing in his home community. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in St. Donatus, Friday morning and interment was in the Lutheran cemetery, St. Donatus. Rev. Theo. Janssen officiated. The casket was draped with the United States flag. Misses Alma Keil, Elenore Goepfert, Minnie Felderman and Erma Schenk acted as flower girls. The pall bearers were J. C. Felderman, Henry Rickens, Henry Kohlenberg, Herman Kneif, John Felderman and William Schenk.
