He was a son of Daniel Sullivan, Esq., of that place and enlisted in Galena on the 11th of August, 1862 in the 96th Illinois Infantry Regiment. He was wounded at the Battle of Nashville on the 16th of December and died on a hospital boat on the 16th of January while being taken north. His brother went after his remains and brought them home and they were interred as above stated. At the time of his death he was 22 years of age and had been in twelve battles before the one in which he was mortally wounded. He was brave, generous and kind, a good soldier, a dutiful son and a favorite among all who knew him, and his early death is sincerely lamented among all who knew him.
