J. Swifft Promoted Lt. Colonel Jackson Sentinel, Aug. 3, 1926 MAYOR F. J. SWIFT PROMOTED TO RANK OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL In 1917, Dr. F. J. Swift entered the service during the world war and was commissioned 1st Lieutenant serving in such capacity four fourteen months, when he was appointed to the captaincy in the Medical Corps. In May, 1919, while serving in France, the captain's bar were replaced by a gold leaf, the insignia of a major, which rank he held when he mustered out of active war service at the end of the war. Major Swift retained his rank upon the establishment of the Reserve Corps. He later attended military school of instruction at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and recently passed the test to receive his commission as Lieutenant Colonel, a rank that many covet, but few attain.
