Eben Leffingwell, brother of Ward Leffingwell of Sabula, and father of the two interesting little lads who are living at the latter’s home, is back from the battlefields of France with 37 wounds in his body. He arrived at U. S. General Hospital, Fort Des Moines Sunday with 200 overseas patients. “It’s all over but the shouting” said Leffingwell to a Des Moines newspaper man Sunday and the balance of the 200 wounded soldiers voiced the same opinion. Leffingwell has 37 wounds to show for his session with Fritz. He’s a Company B man, 168th Infantry, and fought with the plucky Iowans at Lorraine, until on May 29th a German hand grenade met him and left 37 souvenirs in his body. – Sabula Gazette.
