JOHN DUFFY FOR RITES HERE Sgt. John Lawrence Duffy, who was killed in action in Italy, April 24, 1944, will be accorded military honors in final rites at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, at 9 a.m. Friday. The Rev. William A. Kunkel will officiate and burial will be at Temple Hill cemetery with Maquoketa V. F. W. and American Legion ceremonial squads in charge. Local stores will close from 9 to 10 a.m. for the service. Sgt. Duffy is the son of Lawrence and Iva Clark Duffy and he was born at Onslow February 17, 1916 and was a farmer before entering the military on May 20, 1943. He never married and was 28 years old at the time of his death. Surviving are his father, who resides at 401 East Maple Street, Maquoketa and three sisters, Regina Yoke of Davenport, Mrs. George Coppess of Hale and Helen at home. The family moved to Maquoketa about five years ago from the Temple Hill community and the mother died shortly afterwards. The body is scheduled to arrive at the Carson Balster funeral home at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and will be taken to the family home.
