Reported lost in sinking ship. Denzil Taylor, 20 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor, was reported aboard the U.S.S. Arizona, which sunk in the Pearl Harbor bombing two weeks ago. Taylor was just completing his second year in the naval service. The family had always resided here until a short time ago when Mr. Taylor started work at Savanna, Ill., and the family moved to Sabula. (Jackson Sentinel, December 16, 1941) Youth listed as missing in action. Parents are notified by Navy Department. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor, former Maquoketans, now residing in Sabula, have been officially notified by the navy department that their 20 year old son, Denzil, is missing. Young Taylor, a seaman on the USS Arizona, which went down in the Pacific following Japanese attacks, had just completed his second year in the navy. The parents were notified "that more complete information will be supplied you as soon as possible." (Jackson Sentinel, December 23, 1941.)
