Their machinery is propelled by the splendid water power of the Maquoketa River, which at that point is of the most permanent character and is sufficient to carry half the machinery in the state. Their works include wool carding, spinning, weaving and cloth dressing-in short they take the fleece and turn out well finished cloth. The cloth which we examined will compare favorably with that manufactured anywhere, while they make a very superior article of blankets. Several improvements are contemplated which will add greatly to the capacity of their work and enable them to turn out a larger quantity of their manufactures than they do now. For manufacturing, Canton possesses most unequaled advantages and we are confident that at no distant day we shall there find establishments giving employment to thousands of operators and as a consequence supplying a large portion of the Northwest with the products of their labors.
