Dean, who has been cook at the Pain restaurant in Maquoketa, was let out of his job last Monday morning, and he immediately left for Clinton. His wife Mabel was helping take care of the home of a Mr. Galitz, living near Clinton. It seems that Dean had a jealous streak in his makeup, and decided John Freyer, farm hand, paid too much attention to Mabel Dean. He went out to the Galitz home and found Freyer helping Mabel do the week’s washing and then proceeded to fill Freyer's body full of lead. Freyer was taken to the hospital in a serious condition and Dean is languishing in the county jail awaiting results. Dean says he has no regrets in the matter, only that he didn’t do a better job of it.
