His numerous friends and old comrades throughout the county were shocked by at the horrible death visited upon one of their number. He was a married man and leaves a wife and one child in deep sorrow. He was one of the old veterans of Company I, 31st Iowa Infantry, War of the Rebellion, and is one of the long time residents of Van Buren. His age was about 55 years. His funeral occurred from the home Wednesday and the Grand Army of the Republic boys and Odd Fellows turned out in a body to pay their respects to a faithful brother and good citizen. There was also a large attendance of relatives and friends.
