S. Billups was born at Bellevue, Iowa, September 14, 1837. When eight years of age he moved with his parents to Cottonville, where he lived for a number of years. Later he was on the river and was steward on a big steamboat for four years, at the end of which time he enlisted in the military service and served faithfully during the rebellion. On Nov. 3, 1866, he was united in marriage to Lottie Minion in this city, where he has since resided. He passed away Tuesday night at 12:00 after a brief illness. A wife and five children survive to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. For many years he has conducted a grocery store in our city and is well known for his honesty and fair dealing. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock from the M. E. Church.
