His death was quite sudden. He had been out before breakfast looking after some stock. While finishing his meal he was suddenly taken ill, and in a few moments was dead. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Jackson and Dubuque counties. He was born in the county of Galway, Ireland in 1813, and at the time of his death was 80 years old. He came to Dubuque in 1833, and located at Garry Owen in 1838, where he has resided up to the time of his death. Of his family seven daughters survive him. The deceased, was an honorable man and a genial gentleman and was universally respected by his neighbors. The funeral took, place on Tuesday afternoon. The remains, were brought to Cascade and buried in the Protestant cemetery.
