JOSEPH J. DONAHUE The Rev. Joseph J. Donahue, of St. Patrick's Church, LeRoy, Minnesota, and a native of the Zwingle area, died at noon Tuesday at his rectory in LeRoy. A Requiem High Mass was offered Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, Sylvia Switch, Iowa, near Zwingle. Officers of the mass were the Rev. Raymond J. Collins, celebrant; the Rev. John Huseman, deacon; the Rev. John J. Roskopf, master of ceremonies; the Rev. Elmer F. Becker delivered the sermon. Also present in the sanctuary was Bishop-elect Watters and chaplins to the bishop Rev. George Schmidt and Rev. Fidelis Kaufman. Also presnt were Rt. Rev. Msgr. Daniel Tarrant, Rev. Vogel, Rev. John Fagan, Rev. H. P. Nosbich, Rev. John Moran, Rev. Tom Currier, Rev. Gerald Blackburn and Rev. William Leonard. Burial was made at the Assumption cemetery. Casket bearers, all cousins, were: John Laughlin, James Collins, Jno Donahue, John Anglin, Jim Geurdet and Jim Laughlin. Father Donahue graduated from Holy Rosary High School, LaMotte and from St. Thomas Seminary, Denver, Colorado, after which he was associated with the Winona Diocese. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1949, and offered his first mass at the Assumption Church on June 5, 1949. Father Donahue was an assistant at Austin, Minnesota, then pastor at Freeburg and Dundee, Minnesota. In 1960 he was appointed pastor at St. Patrick's church, LeRoy, Minnesota. Father Donahue was born near Zwingle on December 18, 1922, a son of James L. and Margaret (Laughlin) Donahue, and lived in this vicinity until he completed his education. Surviving are his father, two sisters, Monica (Mrs. Kenneth) Pancratz and Inez (Mrs. Roy) Pancratz, both of Zwingle and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Anna Marie.
