Donovan died at the residence of his brother-in-law, Captain James F. Daly, 54 West Fifth Street, aged 38 years. Mr. Donovan was born in Jackson County in 1854. He was married in 1884 to Miss Mary Hickson, daughter of James Hickson of Otter Creek. Soon after he engaged in business in Garry Owen. Later he went to Bernard where in partnership with his brother, Matthias, he carried on business for some years. In August last, he and his family moved to Denver, Colorado, where he remained until about two weeks ago when he returned to Dubuque. His wife and three children, James, Fannie and Clemens, survive him; also two brothers Daniel and Mat Donovan of Jackson County, besides a very large number of other relatives in and about Garry Owen. His parents died several years ago. Deceased was well and favorably known in this city. He was a member of one of the oldest and most respected families of Butler Township. His friends in this city speak highly of him. The funeral took place Tuesday morning from the residence of Captain Daly. The remains were taken to the Milwaukee Depot at 7 o'clock and were conveyed to Garry Owen, where the interment took place.
