November 7 Carroll Eads, a prominent Preston-Miles area farmer, died early Friday morning in the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa. Mr. Eads was hospitalized the afternoon before. Funeral services were held Monday in the Campbell funeral home followed by rites in the Presbyterian church. The Rev. Duane Basil, pastor officiated and interment was made in the Preston cemetery. A past president of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, Mr. Eads last Tuesday retired after a two year term as president of the Jackson County Fair Association. He was a member of the county fair board, the Sabula Isaac Walton League chapter and president of the Jackson National Farm Loan Association. He was an alternate voting delegate for the county Farm Bureau at the time of his death. A well=known Guernsey dairy cattlemen, Eads was active also in the Clinton Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was one of those spearheading the the movement for the Jackson County Public Hospital and volunteered in acquiring the three 4H livestock barns in Maquoketa. Eads was born January 14, 1905 at Emeline, Iowa, a son of Irving and Myrtle Eads. His widow, Anna, survives him, along with his mother and three sons, Glenn, Charles and James. Charles is serving in Germany with the U. S. Army and the other two sons are at home. Also surviving are two brothers, Lyman Eads of Spirit Lake and Henry Eads of Emeline, and two grandchildren.
