A. Gibson, aged nearly 58 years. Mrs. Gibson’s severe illness was not of long duration, but she was more or less out of health during the summer. An estimable, industrious and domestic lady with wide acquaintance and many friends has passed away. Mary J. Brown was born in Chemung County, New York, May 16, 1845. She grew up to young womanhood in the state where she was born. Some time previous to 1867 she came to Iowa on a visit and returned to her native state. May 8, 1867 she was married to William H. Gibson, with whom she lived here in this city until the day of her death. There were born to them three children, John H. of this city, Edna J. (now Mrs. Grant), and Urban. These children, together with their father and many other relatives mourn the loss of one beloved. Rev. Sam’l Shepherd officiating at a very largely attended funeral, which took place from the house Friday afternoon and preached from Matthew 6:21. The Royal Neighbors, of which she was an honored member, were present in a body and marched to Mt. Hope Cemetery and witnessed the last sad rites at the grave.
