GIBSON Another World War Veteran Answers Taps-Laid To Rest In Monmouth Cemetery Charles Albert Gibson, son of James and Tiley Gibson, was born in Monmouth, Iowa, February 3, 1891 and died in his home at Maquoketa, Iowa, July 23, 1931, attaining the age of 40 years, 5 months and 20 days. Charles attended school in Monmouth until the death of his father in 1906. In 1915 he was married to Miss Effie Hambel in Moline, Illinois, and to them was born one daughter. When the United States entered the World War, he was drafted into the Army service from Maquoketa and was assigned to Company I of the 12th Infantry. His regiment did not reach France, but arrived at the embarkation point at Newport News, Va., when the Armistice was signed. Charles was married again January 27, 1930, to Miss Helen Frances Smith of Maquoketa, a sister to the famous Smith Brothers, a noted acrobatic team. Charles had suffered ill health for several years, although injuries sustained in an automobile accident a week ago, was contributory to his demise. Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Louis Gibson and his brother Reginald Gibson, both of Maquoketa. Funeral services were held at the Buchner chapel, conducted by Rev. G. C. Lusted. Burial was made beside his father in the Monmouth cemetery. Members of Timber City Post 75, American Legion acted as pallbearers. Taps were sounded by Lt. Swift and the members of the firing squad were Emil Luett, Chas. Sheldon, A. L. Kent, Roy Logan, Tom Benischeck, Howard Gee and Howard Tabor.
