The home of James Hawkes at Fillmore was filled with sadness Sunday night when the angel of death visited the scene and removed the beloved wife and mother. The circumstances surrounding the event, in the fact that she leaves twin daughters born only last week, enhances the natural sadness that envelopes the house of mourning. Prom the birth of the children she did not regain strength, but gradually grew worse from day to day until the final call to the realms beyond the shadow. Mrs. Hawkes maiden name was Annie Russell, and her first husband was the late Peter Fortune, who died five years ago. Two children were born to them, Regina aged 11 and Nellie, 9 years old. Last May she was united in marriage to James Hawkes, the Fillmore merchant. Mrs. Hawkes was a sister of Christie, William and Patrick Russell, of Bernard and was highly esteemed by all who enjoyed her acquaintance. The funeral services were held Wednesday at the Sacred Heart church, and the remains were taken to Garry Owen for burial. The pall bearers were, Patrick Howard, Dennis McDonald, Patrick McCarthy, Richard Curoe, Barney Otting, and Wm. Cannon.
