Gary Holtz, 77, of Maquoketa passed away on November 13, 2017.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa on 
Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Thursday, November 
16 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at 
the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Gary Lynn Holtz was born on November 19, 1939 to Harold and Bertha (Wellendorf) 
Holtz. He attended and graduated from Maquoketa High School. He married Sara 
Kunkel on July 7, 1962 at St. Anthony’s in Dubuque. Gary worked at Clinton 
Engines, Alcoa for 16 years, farmed and retired from the Iowa DOT.
Gary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an honorary member of 
Vintage Farm Equipment Show in Atkinson, Illinois. He enjoyed tractors, antique 
tractor shows, fishing. He loved collecting many different things especially 
train sets. He was also part of the Army Reserves for 6 years.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Sara Holtz, 4 children; Gary F. 
(Cathleen) Holtz of Delmar, Theresa (Bradley) Taliaferro of Delmar, Jeffrey 
(Lisa) Holtz of Maquoketa, Kathryn (Randy) Shanahan of Maquoketa, 11 
grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Sadie.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Rozella.
Memorials may be directed in his honor to his family.
