Miles Reporter, November 14, 1885, reprinted in the Jackson Sentinel, 
Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa, November 18, 1885.

Mr. Daniel Martin was notified by telegram from Clinton on Thursday that the 
body of his son, William Martin, who disappeared some six weeks ago, was found 
in the Mississippi River just below the Clinton bridge. The afflicted father 
and his brother, Mr. John Martin, went to Clinton soon after the dispatch was 
received, for the purpose of bringing the remains to Miles. William Martin had 
considerable money with him and it is probable that he was robbed and murdered.
