W. Day, whose health has been quite precarious for some time past, was taken ill last week, and despite the best medical treatment and the solicitous care of his family, he rapidly grew worse, and died on Thursday in his 61st year. His funeral took place on Thursday last, at the M.E.Church, and his remains were escorted to Evergreen Cemetery by Chauncey Lawrence Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of which he had been a beloved member, and followed by a large concourse of our people. Mr. Day was an old settler of Sabula, having come here from Tioga County, New York, his native place, in 1849. He was a veteran of the late war and had participated in the battle of Port Gibson and in the seige of Vicksburg. In 1862 he enlisted in the 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served throughout the war, being discharged in July, 1865. In every capacity Mr. Day evinced the qualities of a good, true man and a worthy citizen. His loss to the community will be sincerely deplored by all. The universal sympathy is extended to the bereaved family and relatives.
