Mrs. O'Brien, whose maiden name was Hanora McCarthy, was born in Garry Owen February 27th, 1857, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McCarthy. On November 24th, 1881 she married Maurice O'Brien in St. Patrick's church, Garry Owen. Mr. O'Brien preceded her in death just twenty years to the very date on which her soul ascended to its Maker. Five children were born to this union, Maurice, the eldest died in adolesccnce; and she is survived by John J., Annie, Mrs. Daniel McCarthy, and Charles, all of Bernard. Mrs. O'Brien was a woman of quiet and unpretentious habits, ever devoted to her home and family, yet never too busy to render a neighbor any service that she was able to bestow. Her faith in God was the light that comforted her in her final illness and she died fortified by the last rites of the holy religion. Her funeral occurred from her late home west of Bernard at 9 o'clock Saturday morning to the Sacred Heart church, at Fillmore, where Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated Rev.J. J. Leen was celebrant, Rev. D. P. Mulcahy, deacon, and Rev. R. P. Duggan (a cousin of the deceased) was sub-deacon. Rev. Father Duggan also officiated at the graveside in St. Patrick's cemetery, Garry Owen, where all that was mortal of Mrs. O'Brien was interred beside the remains of her husband and son. The casket bearers were chosen from friends of the family and were M. L. Donovan, C. F. Smyth, James Cannon, John F. McCarthy, William Cannon, Daniel Driscoll, Daniel Noonan and Elmer Melloy.
