He came to Jackson County in 1867 and has resided here ever since. He was married to Harriett M. Jacobs on April 9th 1858 and two children were born of this union: George A. Palmer, born Jan. 29, 1860 and died Nov. 19th 1881. A second son, Will Palmer, is still living. Mr. Palmer's first wife died Feb. 22nd 1862. He was married a second time on Feb. 8th 1863 to Sarah Pritchard, who is still living. Seven children blessed this union: Sarah A. Thompson, Charles Elmer Palmer, Fred C. Palmer, Maud Steadman, Minnie Goddard, Bessie Switzer and Nell Palmer, all living. The funeral services were held at the home of his son, Charles Elmer, Tuesday forenoon at 10:00, conducted by Rev. Samuel Shepherd of the Congregational Church of Maquoketa. The remains were held until Wednesday morning for interment, awaiting the arrival Mrs. Palmer, who was in New York state visiting relatives. Burial took place in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Palmer had been afflicted with almost total blindness for several years past, but his general health was fairly good. He was stricken in his bed Saturday morning and lived until evening.
