SHAW was born in Gilbertsville, New York, January 25, 1830, died June 27, 1902, in Whiteville, North Carolina, of heart failure, which induced paralysis. He was a resident of Maquoketa from 1846 to 1884, when he went to what was then the territory of Washington, where he remained until 1895, when he went to North Carolina. He leaves two children, a son Fred, who was with him, when he died and a daughter, Hattie, who resides in Washington, also two grandchildren, Daisy and Janie Wheeler of Rutland, Vermont. Mr. Shaw will be remembered as a good, honest citizen, a sympathizer with the masses and the struggling poor. He was engaged in the photography business for a number of years.
