Maquoketa Record, June 24, 1903 

Henry Smith, an old and respeted citizen, died at his home in the Fourth Ward 
in Maquoketa, at 11 o'clock, Thursday morning, June 18, 1903. He was in his 
72d year. His death was due to a stroke of paralysis, the week previous, from 
which he never fully recovered. The funeral services were held at the M. E. 
Church at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Shoemaker officiating. Services 
were held at the grave by the Masonic order of which Mr. Smith was a member. 
The Grand Army of the Republic and Union Veterans Union were in attendance, 
the deceased having been an old soldier and a member of both organizations.
