Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, March 8, 1940 

Carrie Sokol, Pioneer Maquoketa Lady, Dies Thursday 

Mrs. Carrie S. Sokol, 79, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday at the LeRoy 
Hospital where she had been a patient since January 16, when she suffered a 
fractured pelvis at her home on West Platt Street. 

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Harrison funeral home 
with Rev. Harry Throckmorton officiating. Interment will be made in mausoleum 
at Mt. Hope Ccemetery. 

Carrie Sophia Walker was born on Nov. 13, 1860. In 1890 she was united in 
marriage to Joseph H. Sokol, who was then in business at Baldwin, Iowa. In 
1894 they moved to Maquoketa where the family has since resided. Mr. Sokol 
passed away on January 20, 1922. 

Surviving are one son, Arch W. Sokol, who resided with her; a daughter, Mrs. 
Otto V. Battles of Yakima, Washington, and several grandsons, besides a host 
of friends.
