History of Jackson County
Mr. John Teeple, who lives eight miles west, lost a son on Sunday last, aged 
eleven years and two months, from the effects of a rattlesnake bite. It 
appears the boy was in  company with his mother and several others, picking 
blackberries, when they were attracted by his screams, and upon repairing to 
where he was, they found that he had been bitten in the ankle. Every remedy 
was applied, but to no effect; he died on Sunday last, after suffering most 
excruciating pain.
