He had been helping his son stack clover some distance from the home, and upon completion of the work, the young man drove his team to the barn, while the father took a short cut across the field. When the former reached home he failed to find his father and went in search of him and found him a short distance from the clover stack dead. Apoplexy is given as the cause of death.
