He was recovering after a major operation, performed for strangulated hernia, two weeks ago, but a sudden weakening of the heart, during the last week, with complications ensuing, hastened his dissolution. He was a farmer of prominence, in Washington county, for years; then an early day proprietor of a general merchandise store; and finally, lived, retired, at Riverside. His widow and four sons survive. Dr. George Cress of Wheatland, Iowa, is an alumnus of the college of dentistry, S. U. I., class of 1902; and Dr. Earl Cress, a physician and surgeon of Minnesota is a former university student also. Chester resides at North Liberty; and Cloyd, at home, Riverside. Mr. Cress was highly esteemed in his community, and also in Johnson county, where he was well-known. Many friends, therefore, will grieve.
