It appears that Mrs. Miner was infatuated with Hartwig and it is thought by authorites that they conspired to put Miner out of the way, so that they could marry. The woman claims that her husband committed suicide and denies that she had attempted to take her own life, but attending physicians state that she had swallowed poison after learning that she was to be accused of the crime. Hartwig is now in the county jail at Anamosa and the woman is being guarded at her home in Olin.
