Mr. Koontz was born near Maquoketa and was married to Philena Welch, living near Maquoketa, Cedar Rapids, and Riceville. In 1926 they came to Onslow where Mr. Koon succeeded Thomas McMaster in the hardware business. He retired from the hardware store two years ago. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Koon celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, on April 10th. Mr. Koon is survived by his wife and three sons, Walter of Red Oak, Wilmer of Mapleton and Cecil of Cedar Rapids. Two brothers, Ollie of Delmar and Charles of Maquoketa, also survive. Funeral services were held at the residence in Onslow, conducted by Rev. Van Buren, a retired Methodist minister and former pastor of the deceased. Burial was in the Esgate cemetery, rural Maquoketa.
