Died in Fort Madison, Iowa, September 23d, Mr. James Everhart, in the 76th year of
his age. He was born in Chester County, Pa., but from early life resided in Centre
County till he was fifty years old, when he came to the Territory of Iowa. With his
wife, who still survives him, he joined the church of Spring Creek, in 1816, a few
months after their marriage… He died suddenly, of paralysis of the lungs. From a
natural slumber, he passed consciously into the sleep of death. He leaves an aged
wife and six daughters to mourn his departure.
